To get to this hike take I-84 to Cascade Locks. The trailhead is located directly under the Bridge Of The Gods.
From the trailhead cross the road and head through the park and up the stairs. The trail is across the road that takes you to the tollbooth. This is the Pacific Crest Trail which you’ll take for a short distance until you reach Moody Street. Follow the gravel road uphill a very short distance, you’ll pick up the Gorge Trail on the right side of the road. The trails winds around for a short distance and then becomes very straight as you follow along a very noisy I-84. You will be able to hear and see I-84 the whole time, so if that bothers you this may not be a great hike for you.
Keep following the trail through the trees, fern and lots of fallen rock. The fall colors were great, the vine maple was a bright gold. It’s a very pretty hike, just noisy! The trail kind of roller-coasters for roughly a mile until you climb up to a rocky point that has a few mild switchbacks. Once at the top you have a nice view of Bridge Of The Gods. From this point the trail heads downhill coming to a junction with the Historic Columbia River Highway Trail. Take a right here and head under the highway, the paved trail is now between the train tracks and I-84. Watch out for bikers, they come down the trail very fast. Follow the path back to your car.
