Directions: Drive I-84 to the Fairview exit. Take a right at the signal and follow Fairview Parkway to Halsey Street. Take a left on Halsey and take a right onto Market Drive. Follow Market Drive to Village Street and take a right. Then take a left onto Park Lane where you will see Fairview City Park.
This is a great option if you want to get out after work or just want to squeeze a quick walk in. It’s also great for people who love birds, like us.
The hike starts at Fairview City Park. Follow the paved path to the trailhead (the covered bridge). Not far past the bridge the trail forks. One path leads to the ponds and the other takes you to an elementary school. Heading in the direction of the ponds you’ll wind through a marshy forest past the Fairview Target and under Fairview Parkway. Past the road you will go through a field lined with cattails, wild roses, and willow trees.
After the field you’ll pass the outhouse and will have reached the ponds. Follow the path to the right and you’ll have an option to go over a bridge to the West pond, or follow the gravel path around the East pond. You can can only go half way around the West pond but it’s less crowded and has room for picnics, so it’s worth it. The path goes all the way around the East pond. There are docks and benches around the pond and plenty of ducks to be fed. Fishing is also allowed on the East Pond.
