Stone House

Directions: Take I-84 East to Cascade Locks and cross the Bridge Of The Gods ($2 toll). Take a left onto Highway 14 and follow it towards Beacon Rock. Continue driving three miles past Beacon Rock and watch for a small pullout on the right side of the road. There is yellow reflective tape on a metal guardrail. It’s not far past the Skamania General Store.

This isn’t the easiest place to find and it’s not a hike at all. It’s just feet from Highway 14. You can actually see it from the highway if you know where to look. It’s a fun addition to nearby hikes and a place not many people know of.

From the pullout where you parked follow a skinny path up the side of the hill. It drops you at what is left of an old stone house. It’s quite interesting as the fireplace and some of the walls are still intact. We don’t know anything about this place or even how old it is. If anyone has any information on this house we would love to hear it!

Thanks for the great post! We are heading out tomorrow to go find this house. Any more tips on where to park off the hwy? I was looking on google maps to try and find the pull out but wasn’t sure which on it is.

The pull off is easy to miss. Make sure to keep an eye out after you pass the general store. It’s the spot that’s right at a metal guardrail that has a rectangle of yellow reflective stuff (tape maybe?) on it. The spot can only fit one car and it’s angled slightly uphill towards where the house would be. You can actually see the stone house from the highway but it’s easy to miss because it blends in so well.

Hopefully that helps a little. It’s just a random pullout that doesn’t have anything too distinctive around it.

Have fun and thanks for looking at our site 🙂

Found it!! It was very cool. If you drive a bit past the yellow tail then there is a pull out you can park in- just be careful walking back towards the site as you are near the guard rail.someone has graffitied the main wall 🙁
