We thought we’d throw in a post that’s not related to hiking.
This weekend we ventured out to Kiyokawa Family Orchards to get some apples and enjoy the fall weather.
They had a large selection of apples and pears plus some other produce. There was also apple cider and lots of different jellies. They have a lot of weekend events and we happened to visit during Fiesta Days which was fun.
They offer self-guided orchard tours and apple picking as well. It was raining pretty hard so we opted out of the apple picking and just got apples at the large fruit stand. Kids will have a good time as well, there looked to be a few kid-friendly areas.
We used some of our apples to make Crockpot Applesauce, it turned out really yummy. Here’s the recipe if anyone is interested:
6-8 apples (depending on size), cored and sliced thin (we used a mix of Jonagold and Granny Smith)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Mix the apples with cinnamon and sugar, put in crockpot. Pour water and lemon juice over the apples. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful fall season! 🙂
